The spot-the-jellyfish team at the University of Malta has launched a jellyfish photography competition that will run in conjunction with the annual marine one organised by Din l-Art Ħelwa.

The competition will focus on jellyfish and gelatinous species, including comb jellies and salps and will be divided in two tiers.

The first category is dedicated to those who own underwater photography equipment while the other is for those who photograph species on water surfaces or dead specimen on beaches.

The organising team is based at the University’s International Ocean Institute and the IOI-Malta Operational Centre and is supported by the Malta Tourism Authority.Submissions, including location details, date and depth at which jellyfish species were photographed should be sent to Stanley Farrugia at sfarran@maltanet.net and Alan Deidun at alan.deidun@um.edu.mt till the end of August.

Winners will be announced during Notte Bianca in October.

For information, including reports of jellyfish sightings, send an e-mail to ioi-moc@um.edu.mt.
