Parliament yesterday paid tribute to former Nationalist Minister George Hyzler, who died last month aged 85. Deputy Prime Minister Tonio Borg spoke of Dr Hyzler as a man dedicated to politics and service to others. He served in the House for 33 years, from 1962 to 1995, eight years of which as a minister or parliamentary secretary. In April 1995, Dr Hyzler resigned from Parliament and between 1999 and 2009 he held the post of Acting President. Labour Deputy Leader Anġlu Farrugia said Dr Hyzler was a gentleman and today’s generation of politicians had much to learn from politicians of yesteryear. The PL acknowledged that he had served his duty meticulously as Acting President.
Mr Speaker Michael Frendo and the two sides sent their condolences to the Hyzler family.
