Different form of promotion for Malta

Who needs to spend millions of euros to promote our tourism industry at this time of a global recession when BirdLife Malta and the Committee Against Bird Slaughter are promoting Malta very intensively for free?

Allow me to quote what was reported in their 2010 annual report: “CABS on TV. Bavarian Television (BR) broadcasts a 30-minute programme about the work of CABS and its Maltese partners to combat killing of migrant birds on Malta.

“Camera teams had earlier accompanied our bird guards for two weeks on Malta and filmed the shooting down of honey buzzards and attacks on CABS teams.

“The documentary was broadcast on October 24 and caused a stir throughout Germany.”

Despite the fact that many other countries were reported not just for poaching but also because of cruelty, they picked on us and decided to broadcast a 30-minute programme.

Unfortunately, or should I say fortunately, I could only watch the beginning of it and it was so biased and misleading. The programme started by showing impeccable scenes in Germany with birds of prey flying around and, not surprisingly, the commentator said that “1,000 kilometres away there is Malta”, showing a huge contrast of dry land in September with legitimate hunters roaming around at Miżieb hoping to bag a turtle dove for their lucky season.

The BR crew entered Miżieb, thus provoking hunters. The films they shot were broadcast abroad but not in Malta. Possibly to promote our tourist industry.
