A young man who was in a noisy group celebrating in the street after a Valentine's Day party ended up in court today, after he resisted the police who turned up on the scene.

The incident took place in the early hours of yesterday.

The 17-year-old was with school friends who held a Valentine's Day party in St Paul's Bay. The party then spilled out into the street and the police turned up to calm down the rowdy group.

As officers spoke to one of those involved, the accused, who appeared to be drunk, intervened and then resisted arrest, slightly injuring a policeman.

The young man admitted the charges.

Magistrate Antonio Micallef Trigona said such things could not be allowed. He placed the accused under probation for a year.

Dr Robert Abela was defence counsel.
