Union threatens strike action

The General Workers’ Union registered an industrial dispute with Bank of Valletta yesterday. The union said it believed the bank was wrongly applying provisions of collective agreements it had with the various unions on permanent early retirement schemes.

The General Workers’ Union registered an industrial dispute with Bank of Valletta yesterday.

The union said it believed the bank was wrongly applying provisions of collective agreements it had with the various unions on permanent early retirement schemes. This was to the detriment of employees, it said.

The union requested a reconciliation session with the director of industrial relations and reserved the rights to take appropriate action in the absence of agreement.
