A lap dancer, Sabrina Bonnett, 33, has been found not guilty of having, in November 2006, operated a brothel, offended public morals and been indecently dressed at AO Platinum in St Julians.

Police Inspector Louise Calleja had told the court how the police had found scantily dressed women pole dancing or lap dancing in the establishment, frequented by men.

The court said no evidence had been presented which showed that the place was being used as a brothel or for immoral things.

None of the six policemen who went to the place had identified the accused as being one of the dancers. It only resulted that she had been in a dressing room.

The accused had said she was an employee as a dancer and had admitted to pole dancing and lap dancing, but stressed that there was never any physical contact with the clients.

The court said the accused had been wearing a bikini top, panty and mini skirt. It did not feel that this could be considered as indecent dress when it was similar to what one saw on the beaches or on TV.

Shazoo Ghaznavi and Robert Galea were defence counsel.
