Get the reform on the road

Student media organisation Insite asks the Transport Ministry whether the public transport reform takes students into consideration.

How will the public transport reform affect students?

The financial needs of students are taken into account, with new student tickets that are expected to considerably decrease today’s costs for frequently travelling students.

On average, students spend around €1.40 for a day of travelling today. The new ticketing regime will allow students to buy a 30-day ticket for €21 (or a 90-day ticket for €60) giving them unlimited travel on the network for considerably less than today’s costs.

Given the current parking problem on campus, how do you intend to persuade students to use the new system rather than use their cars to get to University?

We will provide improved standards of service that should encourage more bus use.

But certainly, though the reform itself was a big challenge, the greater challenge will be to get people (including students) to change their lifestyles.
