Architect Andre’ Zammit will be giving a talk on Sir Luigi Camilleri, ‘A worthy son of Gozo’, on Friday at 7.30 p.m. at the Circolo Gozitano, 6, Sir Adrian Dingli Street, Victoria.
This talk will cover Camilleri’s life and career. Camilleri (1892-1989) was a child prodigy who matriculated at 13 years and graduated at 20.
At 28, he was one of the pioneer members of the Malta Legislative Assembly under the 1921 Self-Government Constitution, being returned on the first count as one of the four members of the Partito Democratico Nazionalista for Gozo, where he had established a successful legal practice.
He was appointed magistrate and later became a judge and Chief Justice and was knighted. He was a member of the Judiciary for 34 years.
Several historical cards of Gozo of the period that were sent by Sir Luigi will also be on display.
Mr Zammit has just published a biography of Camilleri, copies of which will be available after the talk at €20. Mr Zammit will also be signing copies of his book, which is based on Camilleri’s personal papers and memorabilia.
The talk will be in Maltese but interventions in English will be welcome.
This talk forms part of a programme of activities being organised by the Circolo Gozitano.
