Many people are still unaware of the importance of their kidneys and their link to heart disease, even if around one in 10 people suffer some form of kidney damage.

As kidneys remove toxins and excess water from the blood, they also help to control blood pressure, produce red blood cells and hormones and keep bones healthy.

As part of World Kidney Day today, a fun walk is being organised entitled Protect Your Kidneys. Save Your Heart.

Participants will be meeting at 9.30 a.m. at the Independence statue in Floriana and will walk to the Sliema Ferries. A €10 donation will be collected for Lifecycle who raise funds and support for patients with renal disease.

Donations may be transferred to HSBC account 085 050342 001 or by cheque to World Kidney Day, Vivian Corporation, Sanitas Buildings, Tower Street, Msida MSD1824.

For more information call 2132 0338 or freephone 8007 3102 or e-mail info@viviancorp.com.
