Glenn Vella will represent Malta at the Eurovision Song Contest in May after winning the Malta Song Contest at the Mediterranean Conference Centre last night.

The winner, chosen by a jury headed by renowned Italian singer Riccardo Cocciante and 33 per cent of the public vote, will be waving the Malta flag at the contest to be held in Dusseldorf, Germany.

Mr Vella won the overall vote with the song One Life written by Paul Giordmaina with lyrics by Fleur Balzan.

It was a neck and neck race with Richard Edwards, whose song Finally polled just two points less than the winner.

Kurt Calleja’s Over and Over placed third in a contest which turned out to be a big disappointment for the big names and favourites.

Last night’s show also featured a performance by Cocciante, as well as Blue, the UK’s entrants for this year, and Winter Moods’ frontman Ivan Grech and guitarist Melvin Caruana.
