A 53-year-old father and his 17-year-old son were yesterday charged with setting five cars on fire in a garage in Tan-Niksu farmhouse, Żurrieq, on Wednesday evening.

The two, who cannot be named by court order, pleaded not guilty to torching the cars, damaging property and stealing a car stereo, an amplifier and a cylinder head from a Peugeot 405 parked in the garage.

The accused were granted bail against a personal guarantee of €5,000. Police Inspector Priscilla Caruana prosecuted.

Lawyers Chris Cardona and Mark Vassallo were defence counsel.
