The German airline group Lufthansa said the number of passengers it carried climbed by 11.7 per cent last month from the same month a year earlier despite unrest in North Africa.
Lufthansa, which also owns the carriers Swiss, Austrian Airlines and BMI, said in a statement that 6.6 million people had flown with the combined group last month.
By itself, Lufthansa recorded an annualised increase of 17.4 per cent to 4.4 million passengers “despite the extreme winter weather disrupting flight operations in the USA and the unrest in the traffic region Middle East/Africa”.
The German airline had to cancel several flights between its Frankfurt hub and Tunis.
Lufthansa Cargo also turned in solid results, boosting freight shipments by 17.5 per cent to 137,000 tonnes.
