Work is proceeding in earnest on the building of a new promenade in the area known as ta l-ghazzenin in St Paul's Bay.

The promenade will stretch from the Gillieru restaurant past Wignacourt Tower and on to the government primary school.

The parliamentary secretary for tourism, Mario de Marco, toured the site this morning and underlined the importance of the St Paul's Bay/Qawra area for tourism.

He pointed out that some 40% of tourist beds are in the area. The government, he said, was embellishing the area and wanted to attarct more tourists to it, especially during the winter.

Other works will include a public aquarium off Ta Fra Ben.

The work on the new promenade is expected to be completed in June.
