Three jailed for a year after attempted handbag theft

A couple and a man were yesterday jailed for a year each after they admitted to trying to steal a handbag from a Japanese tourist in St Julians.

Denis Cremona, 35, John Mamo, 26, and wife Maruska, 28, admitted to the single charge and Mr Cremona also pleaded guilty to relapsing. Magistrate Edwina Grima took into consideration their requests to join a drug rehabilitation programme.

Police Inspector Daniel Zammit prosecuted.

Lawyer Yanica Bugeja appeared for the couple.

Lawyer Joe Brincat appeared for Mr Cremona.
