Celebrity chef Sophie Grigson will be in Malta to help showcase British beef and lamb at a trade show laid on to boost trade between the countries’ food industries.
Local retailers, restaurateurs and hospitality industry members will be able to sample a wide range of British produce at the ‘Taste of Britain’ trade show at the Corinthia San Ġorġ, St Julian’s on March 22.
The tradeshow, organised by some of the UK’s top associations, aims to encourage buyers to make British products available to local consumers.
“Malta has such a strong bond with Britain, both culturally and historically, and we wanted to take this opportunity to present new products and ideas that we believe the Maltese will love,” Jean-Pierre Garnier, head of Export for English Meat, explained.
“In the past few years we haven’t been very pro-active in terms of marketing our food and drink products in Malta. Now local decision-makers will be able to see what’s on offer from a huge variety of our suppliers.”
The event will target caterers, restaurateurs, butchers, supermarkets and hospitality industry professionals. It will showcase products from various different suppliers, including ones selling, meat, seafood, cheeses, deli stuffs, drinks, cakes and confectionary items.
Ms Grigson will be demonstrating the use of British lamb and beef in recipes.
Mr Garnier said the trade show was to bring the best of what the British food industry had to offer, with several stands offering a great variety of products, with plenty of tasting opportunities.
“As a country I think Britain is very aware of international food industry trends and the sort of products that end consumers will want to buy. The three current main trends are convenience, health and pleasure – people want all three from their food, and our products certainly offer them all that, and more,” he said.
