Mother framed claims that her children were sexually molested

A man was today found not guilty of having sexually molested two children after a court found that he was framed by their mother after he rejected her sexual advances.

Martin Vassallo, 35 of Senglea had been accused of having illegally arrested two children aged under 12, defiled them and offended public morals.

The court heard that the accused used to work as a farm hand.

The court said that the proceedings had shown that the mother of the children - who was the wife of the farmer who employed the accused - was 'obsessed with herself' and had a huge sense of self-importance and of her attractiveness to men.

Her testimony showed pathetic fantasies and a sexual obsession on the accused, to the extent that when he rejected her sexual advances and quit his job, she feared that the true reason for his departure would be disclosed to her husband, thus harming her marriage.

She had therefore 'poisoned the memory' of her children by distorting the friendship which had existed.

The two children were also 'primed' on how to testify as shown by the words they had used in their testimony.

Furthermore, the court said, the incident where the accused allegedly molested the children, as described, was technically impossible.

With regard to vulgar SMSs which the witness said she received form the accused, it resulted that that there were no messages in her phone inbox but in her outbox.

The former girlfriend of the accused had given accurate testimony of how the woman used to try to flirt with the accused through words and actions.

The court therefore found the Mr Vassallo not guilty.

(The mother's name is not being published to protect the children).

Why would the children need protection ? They were not molested. Will she be prosecuted mfor this very serious crime which could have ruined this mans life even to the point of suicide as has happened in other cases. At least she should be charged with poising her own childrens minds with sexual information which ammounts to sexal abuse by her.

The children need counseling and protection from such a mother because she is ruthless and not above manipulating her own children in a most obscene way.

But the names of the priests accused of pedophelia, were spluttered with the four winds of the world and no one objected and they were treated to a media court before being accused in a court of law. No wonder they are objecting to the fact that they will never have a just and fair trial. They have already been condemned and hanged at the public arena. How many more hypocrits need we have in our country?

Of course it is, how will these children feel when they have to go to school and the newspapers are full of accounts of how their mother made up claims they were abused, and how she tried to have an affair? Imagine the gossip they will have to endure in their own village. These children have a right to privacy and protection from what can be a cruel judgemental society, something they are far too young to know how to deal with properly. They are probably feeling very vulnerable and i'm sure suffering psychologically, they need to be able to recover from this in peace. Naming the mother may be satisfying - but at what cost?

Totally agree with Mr Vella. An innocent finds himself splattered in the media because of the lies from this woman, and yet she seems to get out of this scot free with her reputation intact, to protect her kids. A counter-suit is in order.

Even her kids (under 12) must have been effected badly by this episode.

you are right....

But unfortunately, he would have to go into the expense of taking her to court for defamation of character....

My personal take is that the court/police should charge her for wasting time.

There's a string of criminal offences the police could charge this woman with, for starters, if she was a witness and lied under oath, that would makes her guitly of perjur, a very serious crime indeed.
