A 'substantial' number of technology products were stolen this morning from Scan Computers in Aldo Moro Street, Marsa, the police said.

The alarm was raised at about 1.45 a.m.

The thieves forced their way in by smashing one of the large show-windows of the showroom - using a long iron rod which they left on the scene.

They grabbed what IT equipment they could as a burglar alarm went off.

The police said that a short time afterwards, a patrol noted four persons acting suspiciously in Mater Boni Consigli Street, Paola. They tried to run off when the police approached, but the police managed to arrest them.

Informed sources said that while the items had not been recovered yet, one of the arrested persons had admitted involvement in the theft.

The incident was filmed on CCTV. Although the robbers were hooded, the footage is understood to have helped the police in their investigations.

Magistrate Audrey Demicoli is holding an inquiry.

Scan computers is open as usual.
