GWU to meet government on Air Malta
The GWU said today that it would be having a meeting with the government on Wednesday to discuss the future of Air Malta. The meeting, it stressed, had nothing to do with the Steering Committee which is planning the restructuring of the airline.
The union, like the UHM this morning, expressed frustration at not being informed of developments regarding the airline. It said this delay was causing tension and anxiety among the workers and their families.
The union said it would convene a meeting of the airline's shop stewards on Friday, when a decision would be taken on a meeting for all the workers.
The union said it had always insisted that decisions about the airline should be taken with approval by the majority of the workers

Stop playing with employees and their families. The airline is not in good financial position, and now a new CEO or what every the position is given to a Dutch. Guess what? His salary? Wow!! A shamefule EUR250,000 and an other EUR10.5 million to consultants. Shame to you government. Who's next now after Air Malt???

The blame rested with the directors who acted in agreement with the government who purchased the RJ Avroliners. The Rj Saga dragged on for years after they stopped flying and losses on both the RJs and AZZURA have been a feather of Air Malta's financial reports up to a year or so ago. The losses were so heavy that the relevance today is that the money could have been used to restructure without having to ask for external help for the first time in the 36 years. It is better for the opposition who had the power to make things happen to call for an immediate investigation to see that justice with the employees and other stakeholders is being done and such people will be tried in law courts and they have to answer for the collapse of Air Malta. The Maltese want to see justice and the truth be revealed. Where is accountability? If the government has bad management from the peoples' monies. Shame on the government and those high heads ,including the board of directors made up of PN regime and fat cats that are still there chewing the blood of the taxpayers and Air Malta employees.

For sure the proposals of the government is not going to be to get their jobs secure to be paid by the minimum wage and also 6 years of wage freeze like it used to be the proposal of the GWU IN THE 70'S AND 80'S. Those days are gone but it is good to remind the people about those years and also let the young ones know how they used to be treated the workers in the 70's and 80's although now we are hearing certain people that they want to send us back to those years, GOD FORBID . Ask your parents the conditions of the country in those years mainly the EDUCATION, the HEALTH when they kicked all the Maltese doctors out of the country, the Human Rights of the Maltese People. Lets do not forget but we FORGIVE although we still do not want to go to those BLACK YEARS .

@castillo KM employees have been with a wage freeze for the past 5/6 years due to the bad situation at KM. 70s' & 80s' years were the golden years at KM with a year in year out profit making situation with employees given Xmas bonuses for the excelent results they used to obtain. And you have the guts to come on here and remind us of 'wage freeze'? Ask the employees about wage freeze. Oh no not the executives, they got their performance bonuses !!!

Before airmalta reduces its fleet of A320/319 to 6 Aircraft and introduces 2/3 Medium haul Aircraft - I see very little hope. It is time Airmalta looks outside the box. It is clear that the European Market is too saturated to depend on!....Airmalta needs to Capitalise on its strong bases and move further afield. Africa, Middle East, Caucasus region, etc.... A serious study on viable hubbing routes should be done - take the Afriqijah Airways model and build on that - they are making modest profits and they are still in infancy. Airmalta is able to compete with it for instance.
