Top British duo Underworld will be headlining Malta’s first indoor festival, which is to be held on March 30 at the MFCC in Ta’ Qali.
The event will feature two more international artists, one of whom is top trance DJ act Dash Berlin.
The event was announced by Fresh Events and Cream in a press statement, adding that the second supporting artist will be announced at a later date.
Fronted by Karl Hyde and Rick Smith, Underworld released its latest album, Barking, last September. The album is the duo’s eighth studio release to date and features contributions from Dubfire, Mark Knight and D. Ramirez, Appleblim and Al Tourettes, and Paul van Dyk, consolidating its position as one of the most important and influential acts in the history of electronic music.
Although it had been active for quite some years, the band shot to superstardom in the mid-1990s thanks to the instant appeal of their frenetic anthem Born Slippy NUXX and the soundtrack to the film Trainspotting.
Underworld was formed in Cardiff, Wales, in the mid-1980s and soon established itself on the indie scene thanks to its innovative and eclectic mesh of rock and electronica.
Their ability as producers was instrumental in transforming their appetite for experimenting with sounds into hypnotic club classics and intriguing sonic collages; a balance Underworld has maintained to this day.
Tickets for Underworld Live are available from Sunlab outlets at Baystreet, Sliema, Birkirkara, Paola and The Point Urban Culture (Valletta and The Point), Fact (Qormi), Royal Impact (Żabbar) and La Krepree (Buġibba).
