The Art Discussion Group (ADG) is organising a seminar on ceramics at Hotel Cavalieri, St Julian’s, on March 26, from 9.30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The seminar, which includes lunch, will deal with ‘Growth, Potential and Opportunities’. It is open to ceramists, ADG members and the public. The closing date for applications is February 15.
ADG will charge participants a nominal fee, which also covers a coffee break and expenses in connection with an exhibition which will be inaugurated after the seminar.
Ceramists are asked to submit one work each for exhibition and two photographs, one of themselves and the other of the work chosen, to be included in a power point projection and in a catalogue. The catalogue will include a simple directory of practising ceramists on the island. The seminar will be addressed by Julie Apap, Kenneth Grima, Joan Haber, Mario Sammut, Paul Scerri and Valerio Schembri. There will be time for interventions from the floor.
The seminar is expected to discuss ceramics as a profession; the amateur ceramist and high standard attained; industrial and commercial ceramics; ceramics as therapy; as hobby; technique, glazes and types of clay; the teaching of ceramics at school; the private teaching of ceramics; teaching ceramics as a therapy and for those with special needs; pot throwing (one-off); owning a kiln (advantages, difficulties and expenses involved); workshops and studios.
A report of the seminar will be published for comparative study with another report that ADG published in 1993 after a similar exercise.
