Church in support of unions
The Church's Pastoral Commission this morning issued a paper expressing its support to unions.
"The Catholic Church has constantly agreed and supported the right of workers to unite and set up unions so as to safeguard their rights to a just pay and decent working conditions.
"It is important that one reflects on the church’s position regarding unions in order that one would be able to discern how to strengthen these unions so with a view that these may spread and prevail for the benefit of the workers."
The Church acknowledged that owing to the present economic situation, unions wereexperiencing difficulties in executing their work.
"We believe that these difficulties could be overcome through an undertaking of mutual understanding between the government and the unions.
"There is always room for dialogue between these two parties since surely they both work with a common aim beneficial to the workers," it said.
The whole paper can be read in the pdf link below.

How very nice of the Church to support the people of the Unions. Why has it not expressed its sincere concerns publicly to the politicians, or will they not criticize any politicians in their mutual understandings that may rock the boat? How very timely all this altruistic niceness and concern for the people of the Workers Unions versus the Parliamentarians......pay-packets.
All this considerate understanding.......but just the same, the force for Union for Divorce evolves.

Why the Church Pastoral Commission did not published also the feasts document. I wonder how after such great publicity last year everything went stand still. I hope that the Curia Big Boss or Bosses are not afraid of publishing such document or they are afraid and consequently they are completely amending the document becuase otherwise they will confirm that we are still living in the dark ages. If action is not taken immediately we will certainly see other events such as the protest held by a Confraternity in Qrendi during the Corpus Christi procession without anyone being held responsible for the sinful action!!! However, various people from the Maltese Catholic Community are looking forward to identify what action is going to be taken by the so called Curia People because things are getting worse and worse!!!

I totally agree that the Church is somehow keeping back from pronouncing itself about the document on Feasts after all the trouble last year. The bosses there should take a decision, i.e, either in favour of a serious document or a status quo, (business as usual). I remember quite well (as our 7 year old son was one of those children taking part in the Corpus Christi procession) members of the Confraternity of the Blessed Sagrament in Qrendi protesting and trying to prevent the procession from going out apart from other booing. Did the Curia bosses take any action then? This is only one example amongs others why it is important that a serious document be published. But please, Curia bosses, don't panic and just take your time. slowly...slowly...slowly..... until one day you will notice that it is too late. I think that your first mistake was to interfere in external feasts decoratiions instead of looking at the discrimination the church is doing where there are two feast - ex. in Qrendi and other villages.

I didnt realise the Church was supposed to be involved with a Countries politics?
Why are you bothered now with the unions-what is it you really want???
Some kind of Public relations stunt to make the people favour you, you can fool some of the people some of the time but not all of the time.

Part 2...Today you hardly hear that of a new collective agreement has been done, or has been renewed . The legal emigrants are being preferred to take many of our jobs, because they are accepting to work in any conditions, such as, no bonuses, no leave / sick leave, stupid wages, without any schemes like insurances, health, in another word " no nothing ". Today all the clauses that one finds in a collective agreement, you hardly finds half of them that are implemented. To see how this government work regarding the Unions, we have a great example. Not to strengthen the G.W.U. because it is on its own at the M.C.E.S.D, the rest are P.N. supporters, the government are refusing to let the " FORUM " union to join in this DEMOCRATIC group.

Part 1...It is very easy to issue a statement to give support to the Unions. But it is very difficult to point your finger and accuse a political party that from the beginning of its reign, the first thing on its agenda was to stabilizes the Unions, especially the G.W.U. It has worked out, because today, although the Unions are still there, there teeth are pulled off. The P.N. governments through out the years had the ability to put a muzzle to every Union that tried seriously to open its mouth. Today it is not worthy to take your rights and go on strike ( the most important weapon that the workers have ), because ...A. You will be locked out. B. You will lose money, because you will not get paid...C.... After a short time you might lose your job.... D...No other firm will give you support.... E... The Union brings the interest of the economical/ financial situation of the country first...ect..ect ..Today the part time contracts, short time contracts, self employed contracts and other contracts are subsidizing the full time employment. It became very difficult to find full time jobs.

The Church should focus on its own conspiracies rather than comment on how this country is run.
