In the last week of February the selection board will choose nine councils for work to be carried out in localities this year, according to the established criteria.

This year, the board will continue selecting councils for other projects next year and in 2013. The authority will then issue another call for new proposals.

The aim of the scheme is to strengthen the communities living in these estates. Financial assistance will be given to councils to invest in embellishment projects and to organize educational programmes for residents.

The authority said €675,000 were being dedicated for the six-year scheme annually.

This is all the Housing Authority's fault. They write contracts that mean nothing. Contracts that are not worth the paper that they are written on. Contracts that states, redecorating of the common parts every five years. Common parts that never see a lick of paint to cover the dirt that we have to live with, day in day out.

The Housing Authority is very good at leaving the finishing touches on their buildings, to the buyers and tenants, who in turn, moves in and leave the remaining bits unfinished for years on end, until they become a slum. Common parts without light, where we still walk around with torches, 7 years after we moved in.

If you got a contract that is being breached, I advice you to sue the housing authority. That's exactly what I'm doing. The court bill is getting close to 2000 euros so far. If and when I win my case, you will be contributing towards my expenses. A waste of taxpayers money.

Fight for your right. Never mind 'Int mil-bieb il gewwa biss jimpurtak'. The common parts are yours, as much as they are your neighbours. We all have equal shares, and want mine clean.
