The executive committee of the Nationalist Party is expected to wrap up its discussion on divorce during an all-day meeting on Saturday, February 12.

Sources said the members are expected to vote on a resolution stating the party's position on the subject.

PN General secretary Paul Borg Olivier said yesterday that the majority of the committee members appeared to be against divorce. He stressed that the party had a duty to take a position on this subject, but said the party would not instruct its members how to vote at a referendum.

MPs would also have a free vote in Parliament, to vote according to their conscience.

Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi said on Sunday that the party would not slam the door on those who did not agree with its position.
