I refer to the letter by Madeleine Hobbs (Laying Of Tarmac Would Spoil ‘Top of the World’, January 31).

The resurfacing of Triq Għaxqet l-Għajn forms part of a project which aims to resurface non-urban roads, now that all residential roads in Għargħur are in a very good state of repair. A properly resurfaced road improves accessibility not only for vehicles but also for pedestrians. This road is used primarily by farmers who have fields in the vicinity and by those who want to access the Victoria Lines of Fortification from where one can enjoy a panoramic view.

The council does not agree with Ms Hobbs’s reasoning that the resurfacing of the road will automatically lead to an increase in traffic. The existing traffic arrangement, whereby the road leads to a dead end, will remain in force and, once the road is resurfaced, we will be taking the necessary steps to regulate the speed of traffic.

Sincerely, the council is not aware of any roads within its locality that are full of potholes and in urgent need of some patching. Further specific details would be appreciated.

Regarding the road leading to Baħar iċ-Ċagħaq, this forms part of Naxxar. Our council resurfaced the part within the boundaries of its locality. This explains why the resurfacing has stopped just before the slope to Magħtab.
