Only Scottish clubs were allowed to compete in UEFA competitions from season 1985-86 as English teams were banned following the disaster in Heysel.
The horrific evening in Brussels on May 29, 1985 ended with 39 supporters, mostly from Italy, losing their lives after crowd trouble.
The final, between Liverpool and Juventus, was played despite the loss of lives and many were the critics who condemned UEFA, labelling the football organisation as insensitive.
English clubs were immediately placed under an indefinite ban.
This stance was lifted in 1990 with Liverpool excluded for an additional year and some of their fans prosecuted for manslaughter.
