Isle of MTV concert to return on June 30

Video: Alan Adami

The highly popular Isle of MTV concert will be held again on the granaries in Floriana on June 30, the Malta Tourism Authority announced this afternoon.

The announcement was made when the MTA renewed its partnership with MTV Network for a fifth year.

The line-up of this year's concert is expected to be known in about two months' time.

Parliamentary Secretary Mario de Marco said the concert was important for the promotion of Malta as a tourist destination for the young. He said that in 2006 - the year before the first concert was held - 151,000 tourists aged under 24 had visited Malta. Last year, there were 269,000 tourists under 24. There had also been a 13% increase in tourists aged between 25 and 44.

The Isle of MTV is the largest free open air concert in Europe. Over the years it has featured Lady Gaga, David Guetta, the Black Eyed Peas, Kid Rock, Maroon 5 and Scissor Sisters, among the top stars.

The show is shown on 20 MTV channels throughout Europe.

Antonio Canto, senior vice president of Viacom Brand Solutions said it was planned that this year's concert would be screened just a few days after the show. Over the past years it was screened in September.

He said that MTV in collaboration with the MTA would also feature a new promotional spot on Malta which was filmed recently.

The MTV concert will be supported by year-round marketing activities.

First of all true true Vive le Rock, i call myself a Gothic but but i will attend the Isle of MTV because even though i wouldn't love the music, the atmosphere is fantastic, you meet people from all over the world especially locals.....My point is that apart from making new friends, you see Singers live instead of on TV and that for me is a day to remember, when you have kids, you just feel on saying i saw Enrique Iglesias twice, Lady Gaga's first MTV concert etc...etc
I hope to see you my friend at the fosos....OH MY APPEAL mr.Government sir, Please get Rock Bands!

So true Mr. Pollacco. I remember the first year that it was held in Malta. I remember Ira Losco gave one of her best performances ever. She was much better than the other foreign artists. Guess what? when it was aired on international TV, her performance was not shown.

J. Scerri

Feb 2nd 2011, 20:23

@ B. Pollacco :

Mhux ovvja. Tghidx mhux gejja/gej Katy Perry, Enrique Iglesias jew Lady Gaga u f'nofshom titfa lil xi wahda Maltija taparsi tkanta !!

Forsi l-uniku grupp li johrogna ta nies quddiem dawn it-talenti Internazzjonali huma il-Winter Moods. U anki Joseph Calleja pero dan mhux stil ta' Musika Tieghu. Il-Bqija, il-bahh !!

G.Galea

Feb 4th 2011, 10:13

@J. Scerri:

L-unika bands li johorguna ta' nies barra min Malta huma bands bhall-Forsaken u n-Nomad Son. Xebghu tilghajn idoqqu barra minn Malta u n-Nomad Son ha jkunu qedin jaghmlu tour gewwa l-Ingilterra l-gimgha d-diehla. Imma l-maggoranza tan-nies jiehdu pjacir jisimghu l-imbarazz mela good luck to them. Jien u dawk li jsegwu din l-istil ta' muzika vera nitpaxxew bit-talent malti meta nisimghu barranin ifahhru lil bands li semmejt.

J. Scerri

Feb 4th 2011, 20:10

@ G.Galea : Tista tghidilna x'tip ta' DEGREE ghandek fil-musika biex tiggudika sezzjoni minnha IMBARAZZ ? Nahseb ittellaq ma' Riccardo Nuti & Claudio Abbado fl-intellett Muzikali !! Mhux ahjar thallina nghixu !! PS : Dawk il-gruppi li semmejt int, bir-rispett kollu lejhom, qatt ma rajthom fl-ebda chart la Lokali u l-anqas Internazzjonali, jigifieri insiha li se jimlew il-fosos xi darba !!

s.camilleri

Feb 2nd 2011, 16:56

agree with you.... as long as no rock bands are involved I will not attend! I will do like last year... cheap flight and attend a rock festival in london!

Nick Falzon

Feb 2nd 2011, 22:34

Yeah coz hard rock and heavy metal would really be popular with MTV viewers, eh???

G.Galea

Feb 4th 2011, 10:08

@Nick Falzon:

That's because eMpTyV viewers are little kids with no knowledge about music. They just follow that music because they are bombared with it everyday on TV, Radios, Adverts etc and they know nothing better. An big record labels rub their hands in glee watching the pack of sheep making them richer.
