The draws for the finals of the Swedish U*Bet Championship were held at the premises of the Malta Racing Club in Marsa, yesterday.

All Swedish-born horses registered with the club were eligible to participate in this competition which started last month with a series of qualifying heats.

Five finals are scheduled in the coming weeks. The Copper and Bronze class titles will be decided on Thursday, February 10 while the Silver, Gold and Premier finals are scheduled for Sunday, February 13.

The draws were presided by Matthew Brincat, the Malta Racing Club chairman.

He said: “We are very proud to have organised this championship for a third time and, yet again, it proved to be very popular with local horse racing enthusiasts.

“The level of racing in the heats and semi-finals was indeed high and this augurs well for an exciting afternoon of racing at the racetrack later on this month. We are convinced that all five finals will be keenly-contested.”

Mario Cassar, general manager at Maltco Lotteries, was also present for the draws. He said his company was very pleased to join in partnership with the Malta Racing Club and sponsor the championship for Swedish trotters.

“It is the third year that Maltco and the Malta Racing Club are working together in promoting Swedish horses races in Malta,” Cassar said.

“This has been a successful championship so far and we augur the best of luck to the owners and drivers involved in the finals.”
