A considerable amount of jewellery, running into thousands of euro, was stolen from a jewellery shop in Buġibba early yesterday morning after burglars gained access from an adjoining building.
Police sources said the robbers, who must have studied their operation in detail before committing the crime, got into a block of apartments next door to Wignacourt Jewellery Shop in Islet Promenade Street, Buġibba and then removed slabs to the shop.
The green front door to the block of seafront apartments did not seem damaged.
Sources said the thieves did not enter the shop as such but emptied the shelves in the showcase that was closest to the place where they had removed the slabs. This was evident because other showcases around the shop remained untouched.
