Life at the Vittoriosa creek during the 18th century was yesterday recreated by Heritage Malta in an event at the Malta Maritime Museum, in Vittoriosa, which also included military drills, a typical market and other activities related to life at sea.
For yesterday’s edition of Life At Sea, the museum workshops were opened for the first time to the public and visitors got the chance to see where and how the renovation of traditional Maltese boats and marine engines is carried out by specialised technical staff.
There was also a special viewing of a number of traditional Maltese boats from the reserve collection, including the sailing frejgatina and a regatta boat.
Visitors could also view a Maltese tavern that would have existed in July 1798 when the French arrived in Malta and had the opportunity to see a re-enactment of the arrival of some of Napoleon’s soldiers at the tavern.
