Two men, Duncan Fenech and Daniel Schembri were today found guilty of employing foreigners illegally but acquitted of operating a brothel or allowing other immoral acts in their bar AO Platinum in Paceville.

The court observed that the police had raided the bar and found scantily dressed girls of various nationalities who were pole or lap dancing in the establishment.

The court said there was not the slightest evidence that the establishment was frequented or used for purposes or prostitution or other immoral acts.

The court explained for purposes of 'other immoral acts' it had to be shown that the actions were lewd. There was nothing to show that the accused had permitted prostitution or immoral acts.

The court turned down a request by the prosecution to suspend the licence of the establishment since the prosecution had requested the revocation of a licence held by a man who was not among the accused..

It fined the two men €2,500 each.

Joseph Giglio and Edward Gatt were defence counsel.
