What the Funk is the operative name that a group of musicians from various bands adopted for a bit of retro-funk indulgence.
It was also the name of the event that this collective staged at a jam-packed Escape Club last April, a turnout that pretty much did away with the band’s doubts whether people would be interested in dancing to the band’s reworkings of classic tunes by James Brown, George Clinton, Cameo, Tower of Power, Jamiroquai and many more.
When this band originally got together, they had one thing in mind: to play funky music. The concept was something Mark, Ruth, Adrian and Eric had always wanted to do, and last April they realised their dream, with great results.
Spurred on by the incredible feedback received, the band will be staging a second edition of What The Funk on February 9 at Stitich Club (ex-Liquid) in San Ġwann.
There have been some line-up changes but the spirit remains the same – to get groovy, get funky and get dancing. Tickets are available from www.maltaticket.com.
