Jean Todt, president of the International Automobile Federation, the world regulator of motorsport, said today that the FIA was willing to help Malta in road safety initiatives.

The FIA, he said, was not just about motorsport but also placed strong importance on safety on the roads, and Malta because of its small size, could be a role model in this regard.

Speaking upon his arrival in Malta to be the guest of honour for tonight's Sport Malta awards, the former Ferrari team director also expressed the FIA's readiness to help local associations in promoting motorsport.

This is the first visit by any FIA president in Malta. He leaves tonight.

Those welcoming him at the airport included the Parliamentary Secretary for Sport, Clyde Puli.
