Not the Marsa open centre
I am writing concerning an article that appeared on both the timesofmalta.com and The Times about an incident that occurred between two Somali women (Washbasin Row Leads To Biting Incident, January 20). It was mistakenly reported that the incident took place at the Marsa Open Centre and that they were discharged from the centre and their children are being cared for by the centre.
Firstly, no such incident took place at the Marsa Open Centre and the two women are not residents at the centre either. As a result, we are not aware of the incident reported and no children are being kept at the Marsa Open Centre.
For future reference, the Marsa Open Centre provides temporary accommodation for adult male migrants only. As such, we do not have families, women or children in the centre. Any queries concerning these two women must be directed to the Agency for the Welfare of Asylum-Seekers.

Residents, non-residents. What's the difference? They are all the same. When are we going to have an Agency for the Welfare of Maltese Residents of Marsa, Birzebbuga, Bugibba etc?

We already have that. It's called Local Council.

Speaking of Open Centres.....can someone illuminate us of why Mr. Jerzy Busek was taken to the balzan open centre and not to the marsa one. Is it maybe, so that he wouldn't see in what miserable state these people live in!!!!!

It is an open centre so this means that residents within the open centre can leave whenever they wish to do so. If you will now argue that they do not have money to support themselves neither, what can I tell you..... do you receive a pay check at the end of the month for doing nothing? Well I definitely don't get one, anzi.
Moreover, I do think that Mr. Busek is aware of the situation within any of the centres spread around Malta. We’ve had ample publicity by NGOs amongst which MSF, if you remember, they had left these persons in distress by leaving the island without a valid reason, apart, from pointing fingers at how cruel the Maltese are.
Talk is cheap.....
