Ministry asks if Opposition planning Air Malta walkout
The Finance Ministry asked today whether criticism about the Air Malta reform process made twice in as many days by Opposition tourism spokesman Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca was meant to set the scene for the Opposition to withdraw from the restructuring committee, just as important decisions were about to be taken.
The ministry said that on Sunday, Ms Coleiro Preca complained that the committee had not met for a month, and she was not happy with the way things were going. The speech, the ministry said, was aggressive and insulting.
In a second statement today, the ministry said, Ms Coleiro Preca said the Opposition could have opted to sit on the fence, adding that there were other matters which she did not wish to mention now because this was not the right time.
The ministry said the Opposition had a duty not to sit on the fence in national matters, but while it was attending the meetings of the committee, it did not know how tp participate in a dialogue where talks were held in a mature and serious manner.
The ministry reiterated the government’s commitment to the long-term sustainable future of the airline.
It asked whether the opposition’s actions were a preamble for the opposition to walk out of the committee now that important decisions were about to be taken. The workers, it said, did not want division but solution.

If as Ms Coleiro Preca said the committee did not meet for a month on such a thorny issue then there is reason to believe that it is the Ministry that is insulting the citizens not whoever draws attention to this gross failure. Additionally it is more indicative that whoever is leading the committee wants the opposition out not the other way round. I very much fear that the destiny of Airmalta lies along that of the defunct Drydocks and other national assets (like Maltacom, MIA, Midmed and many others) that have been given to the foreigners for peanuts. The strategy is always the same turn the company from a revenue generator to a liability and sell for cheap. We citizens then have to foot the bill for the shortfall in revenue and lost jobs through our taxes.

Sur Ministru, il-LP kull ma ha jara hu li jitihdu l-ahjar decizjonijiet favur l-AIR MALTA u l-haddiema taghha mhux biex ikun SCAPEGOAT tal-Gvern nazjonalista li ha mitt decizjoni hazina li Fallija. Ir-responsabilta tal falliment ta l-Air Malta qieghda fuq spallejkhom ghax inthom kissirtu u farraktu kull entita li bena from scratch il-LP.
SUR MINISTRU, GA QED TURI LI MALTEMP KBIR GEJ GHAL HADDIEMA

mario gellel il-gvern seta ha l-iktar triq hafifa li hadu pajjizi ikbar minnha. Sensji. semplici. Imma dan il-gvern ghandhu kuxjenza socjali iktar milli ghandhu l-lejber li jilghab ghall-gallerija biss. Jitfa l-gebla u jahbi idu. hekk qed jilghab il-labour. Mur ara billi hargu jipprotestaw x'sar? Sar xi gid minn din il-protesta? Xejn ghamiltu mixja li l-PN xeba' jaghmel meta kien fl-Oppozizjoni fi zmienijiet koroh. Mentri meta wiehed jitkellem u jiddiskuti bhan-nies, johorgu soluzzjonijiet gusti ghal kulhadd. Dak hu l-ispirtu ta' tahdidiet u mhux ta' imposizzjoni kif kien isir taht il-lejber.

If the committee did not meet for a month over such an urgent matter, how does the ministry expect the people to feel?!? Does the ministry know that they are actually insulting the citizens with their dragging of feet ?

Marie-Louise said that the opposition, quote "COULD have opted to sit on the fence". At least sitting on a fence is less harmful than instigating the maltese not to fly Air Malta because the planes are "Ghasafar tac-comb". Can the minister see the difference between what Marie-Louise complained about and the PN opposition tried to do to harm the Labour government of that time? The DUTY of every Maltese is NOT TO HARM in any way whatsoever what belongs to our country.

We hope that this situation is not going to end as in the case of the Drydocks. All Malta's assets are being given in the hands of foreigners. A lot of revenue is going out of the country due to heavy mismanagements, Malta became mostly dependent on the peoples' taxes.

What does the Ministry want - a party to share the blame for the gross incompenencies by Government appointed Chairmen , Boards and CEOS with not even HR audits, let alone direction through out these last 20 years ?

"The speech.............was insulting." You know what was insulting Tonio? The increase in the cost of living which you gave us, that was an insult in the opinion of thousands. The thing is that you inherited a money spinner from the Labor govt and you managed to turn it into a liability.
