A 26-year-old man was yesterday given a suspended sentence for corrupting his 17-year-old girlfriend when they had consensual intercourse at his Qawra home last week.
The parents of the girl, who cannot be named because she is a minor, filed a complaint to the police about the intimacy between her and Sudanese Kenneth Godwin.
“He abused my daughter,” the mother told Magistrate Edwina Grima, who presided over the case, saying the par-ents wanted to go ahead with the procedures against Mr Godwin.
The case was then heard behind closed doors. The girl is currently residing at Mount Carmel Hospital, the mother said.
Mr Godwin was sentenced to one-year imprisonment suspended for two years.
Inspector Therese Sciberras prosecuted while lawyer Joseph Ellis appeared for the accused.
