Following last year’s successful project to move the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra out of its traditional venues for some of its concerts, a ‘community concert’ will be held at the Lyceum Auditorium in Hamrun on Thursday.
The MPO will be playing several popular works by composers such as Brahms, Charpentier, Rodrigo and De Falla, together with well-known extracts from classic film scores including Rota’s The Godfather Theme and Gabriel’s Oboe from Morricone’s score for The Mission.
The MPO will be performing the Nocturne from the Malta Suite by Hamrun-born Charles Camilleri.
The concert will be conducted by Christopher Muscat.
This project is part of a wider social and educational programme which the MPO has embarked on. In the forthcoming weeks, the MPO will be performing Stravinsky’s masterpiece L’Histoire du Soldat to students at the Robert Samut Hall in Floriana.
The concerts start at 7.30 p.m. and entry is free of charge.
