Steve Camilleri shot to the top of the scorers’ list for Bogliasco late Friday when he scored five goals in his team’s 13-12 (0-3, 5-2, 4-3, 4-4) victory over Ellevi Nervi, who lie in ninth place in the Italian Serie A1 league.

With this win Bogliasco consolidated their fifth position with 20 points and registered their first double of the season. They had beaten Nervi 11-7 in the first match in which Camilleri had also scored four goals.

Camilleri who earned rave reports from the commentators of this match, screened live on RAI Sport 2, has now scored 26 goals for his side and is followed by German Heiko Nossek who has 23 goals to his credit.

Nervi relied on the prowess of 36-year-old Alessandro Celia, a powerhouse in the making, who together with Giuseppe Valentino scored four goals.

The other goals for Nervi came from Luca Marziali, Luca Da-monte (2) and Balazs Nyeki.

Bogliasco’s goals came from Camilleri (5), Daniele Bettini (2), Arnaldo Deserti (2), Alessandro di Somma (2) and Daniele Magalotti and Nossek one each.

Nervi went three up in the first session but Bogliasco had already equalised within one minute 10 seconds of the second quarter and scored a further two before Nervi equalised with two goals. With the score at 3-4, Camilleri had a penalty throw saved by Merill Moses.

The third quarter was a ding-dong affair but Bogliasco dominated the final quarter as Magalotti and Di Somma made it 8-11 before Camilleri gave his side a four-goal cushion.

It was here that the commentator singled the Maltese goal-getter, showering him with praise for his work both in attack and defence.

Nervi reduced the deficit before Nossek scored no.13.

The hosts took advantage of Bogliasco’s lethargic play in the final minute to score three successive goals, but not enough to calm their volatile coach Marco Baldi-netti who was restless throughout the match.

Nervi scored five from 10 man-ups while Bogliasco scored the same number of goals but from 12 extra-man sets.
