Floriana this morning celebrated the 200th anniversary of the statue of St Publius, the work of Vincenzo Dimech, with a historical procession with the saint’s statue from the church along decorated streets, taking the same route undertaken during the annual feast celebrated on the second Sunday after Easter.

The procession followed pontifical solemn mass led by bishop emeritus of Kuwait Adeodato Micallef.

Last year, Floriana celebrated the 400th anniversary of when Bishop Tommaso Gargallo declared St Publius one of the three patron saints and protectors of Malta.
