The Akkademja tal-Malti has expressed support with authors who, through their writing, helped literature.

It said that nothing should hinder literary works from getting to a suitable audience.

It said it agreed that Mario Azzopardi’s book Vampir u stejjer oħra should not be removed from library shelves but said it should be classified correctly and be available for more mature students.

The Akkademja said it supported the idea of a board made up of competent people to be in charge of classification of library books.

It congratulated Maltese authors, including Mario Azzopardi and Alex Vella Gera, who were officially recognised for their literary contribution during the National Book Prize ceremony at Castille last Thursday.
