Divorce, the devil and the crusade (1)

Anti-divorce movement chairman Deborah Schembri said the movement was in favour of marriage and it favoured divorce only because it allowed people the possibility to remarry. The logo chosen by the Moviment Iva Għad-Divorzju contradicts her words. According to the logo, first yes to divorce, then yes to marriage. So the logo is saying divorce is more important than marriage.

Dr Schembri went on to say that the current state of affairs simply pushed people towards cohabitation. No. Cohabitation is not induced by the state of affairs but as an option. Also with divorce there will be those who will opt for cohabitation. Besides, two wrongs do not make a right. Cohabitation is evil and divorce is evil as well. So divorce is absolutely no solution to cohabitation.

Dr Schembri said that her movement wanted to give people more rights, including the possibility to remarry. She must know that divorce is no right at all. Divorce is not even mentioned among the human rights of the European Convention on Human Rights or among those of the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights for the simple reason that divorce is no right at all.

If there is no right to divorce, there is no right to remarry in the existence of a valid marriage. Marriage with the possibility of divorce renders marriage cohabitation.

Dr Schembri said that a divorce law would regularise what happened afterwards. No. Divorce is first and foremost the dissolution of a validly contracted marriage by a human person. The evil of divorce lies exactly here: In the inability of any human person to put asunder what God has joined together.

Our law already provides on how to regulate spouses in their separation. And that is enough.

I would like to appeal to all Maltese and Gozitans to join in the battle between God and the devil. The question of divorce has been kicked off by the devil. Christ does not want divorce for our own good. The devil wants it to our detriment. Side with Christ; fight the devil and I can assure you that the victory is for those who side with Christ.
