Hamburg-target Matthias Sammer, the German Football Federations’ (DFB) director of sport, has been given until today to commit to the DFB.

Bundesliga side Hamburg are reported to have approached the 43-year-old about taking charge in the Hanseatic City, but DFB president Theo Zwanziger has said Sammer must make up his mind by today. Hamburg publicly offered Sammer a job on Wednesday, but Zwanziger wants to know where the DFB stands.

Having coached Dortmund to the German league title in 2002 and captained Germany to the Euro 1996 title, Sammer has been director of sport at the DFB since 2006.
