A Somali woman who bit off part of her friend’s finger was yesterday given a suspended jail term as was her victim who had retaliated and bit her cheek during the same argument.
The two women, Amran Abdi Sheikh Ahmed, 25, and Nasra Mohamed Khalif, 23, who reside at the Hal Far open centre, argued over who should wash the clothes next in a water basin on Tuesday. Ms Khalif bit the upper part of Ms Ahmed’s small finger clean off on Tuesday and Ms Ahmed bit Ms Khalif on the cheek.
The two women told Magistrate Miriam Hayman they had forgiven each other.
Police Inspector Priscilla Caruana said the two had since been discharged from the open centre and their children were being looked after by their fathers at the centre.
The magistrate said she took into consideration their clean police records and the fact they had put the incident behind them before handing down a one-year jail term suspended for two.
Lawyers Adrian Camilleri and Patrick Valentino appeared for the accused as legal aid.
