Former Minister for Health and Social Security George Hyzler, 85, has passed away.

Dr Hyzler, a long serving Nationalist MP and medical doctor from Zejtun who lived in Qormi, also served as Acting President.

In a tribute to Dr Hyzler when he retired from public life two years ago, the Nationalist Party said that Dr Hyzler had served the prestigious role of Acting President with a sense of humility as well as dedication to his country, just as he served as an MP, minister and doctor.

The Labour Party in a statement today expressed its condolences and praised Dr Hyzler for his commitment in his profession and politics.

The Nationalist Party in its tribute said that Dr Hyzler was a 'gentleman' of politics who always stayed close to the people.
