Floriana has always boasted of very good football teams but some 60 years ago the team was faring badly in the competitions even though it was replete with first-class players.
The club’s committee was not very happy with the situation and one fine day decided that enough was enough. It reached the conclusion the players, or some of them, at least, were not pulling their weight and their performance was letting the team down. And so they took the radical and historical decision to sack all their first-team players and honour the remaining fixtures with their under-18 teams: the legendary Ajax.
Needless to say, the beginning was quite tough for these inexperienced youngsters but it was not long before the teenagers began to show their worth.
They began to beat their more illustrious opponents and soon the Floriana team enjoyed one of the best periods in its glorious history. But I don’t have football in mind this time and I think the Nationalist Party should think and ponder.
What is sure is that, like the very great majority of genuine PN supporters, I am scandalised and disgusted by the hypocritical performance of some of our MPs. In fact, the Labour Party need not work much to win the next election because these Nationalist MPs are doing it for them. It seems as if so many problems beyond the government’s control were not enough to paralyse the government.
Shame on these honourable members, some of whom have no idea through what kind of hell we had to go through so they could find the democratic and prosperous country they have inherited. They should be ashamed of themselves. They can rest assured they have already booked a prominent place in the Hall of Shame.
