Cisco, the IT solutions giant, is to establish its Maltese operation at Smart City Malta, the ICT and media park announced yesterday.

Smart City Malta has also selected Cisco’s Borderless Network Architecture. The architecture will create a robust, secure and flexible networking environment to meet the demand of the world’s digital operations, Smart City said.

Using Cisco’s open architectural approach, Smart City Malta blended switching and security solutions to create a highly secure, dynamic foundation, which will serve as a basis for the current and evolving business requirements of a sustainable township that caters for a global, mobile, knowledge-based workforce.

On this borderless network, SmartCity Malta has used Cisco’s Unified Communications products and services, to develop a fully-integrated, intelligent collaboration solution.

“Cisco was one of the first leading ICT firms that set up their Middle East and North Africa regional office at Dubai Internet City,” Smart City Malta chief executive officer Fareed Abdulrahman said.

“Now Cisco will also operate from Smart City Malta to carry on this long term relationship in the Mediterranean. We are confident that the strategic offering of Malta will be further utilised in CISCO’s business expansion in the region.”

Jordi Botifoll, Cisco vice-president, Mediterranean Geo, said Cisco was committed to partner with customers and governments to assure their goals were realised.
