Scottish summer wedding for Zara?

Zara Phillips and her rugby star fiancé Mike Tindall could marry in the summer in Scotland, according to reports.

The couple are said to have made enquiries about staging the ceremony at Canongate Kirk on Edinburgh’s Royal Mile. It is thought that the Queen’s granddaughter has asked about marrying at the ancient place of worship on July 30.

The news about a possible date and venue for the royal wedding follows reports that a couple agreed to change their marriage plans to free up the church.

Graphic designer Cherith Harrison and her lifeguard fiancé Gregg Walter were due to marry at Canongate Kirk on July 30. But they switched the ceremony to another venue after it was claimed Buckingham Palace had asked to use the Royal Mile church on the same day.

Ms Harrison’s father, Robert Harrison, told the Peeblesshire News that Canongate’s minister, the Rev. Neil Gardner, had met the family recently and said the Palace had requested the use of the church on that day.

He said: “We were more than happy to accommodate them, and the minister promised to help us find a new venue. By the end of the same day Greyfriars Kirk was booked and it was all sorted within 24 hours.”

Mr Harrison added: “All we know is that the Palace would like the use of the Kirk on July 30 – the rest is just speculation.”

If Ms Phillips marries Mr Tindall, who plays for England and club side Gloucester, in Edinburgh, it will be the first royal wedding in Scotland since her mother, the Princess Royal, wed Vice-Admiral Timothy Laurence in a private ceremony at Crathie Church, near Balmoral Castle.

A spokesman for Ms Phillips said the couple were “considering a number of dates and venues”.
