The Winter league continued last weekend with Krishna playing against Melita Betfair. Krishna were looking to keep the pace with leaders Marsa.

The Krishna team batted first but were already in trouble within two balls of the innings when Joy Ghoseroy was bowled. Andy Lenard went in and blasted 36 runs from 22 balls. He hit a six and a four along the way.

The only batsman to retire (local rule) was Nowell Khosla who scored 34 runs including two fours. The next high score came from extras which was a total of 24.

No other batsmen made it past 10 runs. It was good to see Adam Krishna scoring seven runs not out which edged the team past the 125 runs for a bonus point. The Krishna team totalled 132 runs.

For Melita Betfair, Kevin Krishna and Jim Heasman were the wicket takers with two apiece. Andy Naudi, Chris Naudi, Bikram Arora and Ian Pendlebury all took a wicket each.

The big question was whether the Krishna team could hold their opponents down.

The Naudi brothers, Chris and Andy, opened the innings and gave their team a partnership of 40 runs before Chris (thirteen runs) was bowled.

Some of the best running between the wickets was to be seen. Andy was next to go chasing a wild delivery, top edging and Dave Borg making a brilliant catch.

Arora (40 runs) and John Grima (29 runs) decided the game. They both retired. Arora’s innings was more glamorous, hitting two sixes and two fours. He was also dropped when on 20; one only can wonder what if the catch had been taken, but the old saying comes to mind – catches win matches.

Pendlebury and Krishna mustered up the remaining runs for their team’s victory. For Krishna, Khosla was the main wicket taker with two and Grech took one.

Melita earned eight points for the win but still remain third with 19 points. Krishna took one point and remain second on 20.

On Saturday, Melita Betfair take on Marsa. The nursery/academy will be from 9 till 10.30 a.m.
