Steve Camilleri was the hero of Rari Nantes Bogliasco last weekend when he scored a late winner in a pulsating match against Lake Iseo Brixia of Brescia.

Bogliasco opened the second round of their Serie A commitments with a 8-7 revenge win as Brixia had won their first round match 10-8.

It was such an exciting game that one commentator said that this match must have been the envy of the big Serie A football.

Bogliasco goalkeeper Simone Mina inspired his team with a string of outstanding saves. The first quarter ended all square at 2-2. However, in the second session the guests went 5-2 ahead and just before the end Heiko Nossek reduced the arrears (3-5).

Bogliasco made up for their deficit in the third session when they scored three goals to go ahead for the first time but Brixia equalised.

There were expulsions galore during the match. In fact Bogliasco suffered 15 expulsions and Brixia 11. Of these Bogliasco scored three and Brixia five.

With the score at 7-6 , Brixia were awarded a penalty and Fresia equalised at 7-7. Then came Camilleri’s final burst that sent his fans crazy with delight and left his opponents in desperation. Despite his surprising omission from the list of finalists for the 2010 SportMalta Awards – L-Għażliet Sportivi Nazzjonali, Camilleri continues to make Malta very proud.
