A man who allegedly jumped off a roof and ended up in a wheelchair after trying to burgle a house was in court again yesterday, this time charged with trafficking cocaine last Friday.

Christopher Scerri, 32, of Żebbuġ pleaded not guilty to trafficking the drug in Gżira, possession of the drug in circumstances which denote it was not for his exclusive use, possession of cannabis and relapsing. He was also charged with committing a crime during the operative period of a suspended jail term.

Magistrate Giovanni Grixti remanded him in custody.

In April 2009, Mr Scerri was caught red-handed allegedly trying to steal from the house of a 71-year-old lady in Mdina and then reportedly jumped off a roof when the police gave chase, suffering a fractured leg. He was charged in court that same month.

Police Inspector Jesmond Borg prosecuted.

Lawyers Charmaine Cherrett and Franco Debono appeared for the accused.
