The Labour Party’s general conference at the end of the month will focus on consulting with delegates, NGOs and constituted bodies with a view to drawing up its policies, deputy leader Toni Abela said yesterday.

Announcing the general conference, which will take place between January 31 and February 6, Dr Abela said consultation and participation were two words which were expected to characterise this year’s conference.

The theme chosen for the conference is: Il-pajjiż li jixraq lil uliedna (The country our children deserve).

Party president Stefan Zrinzo Azzopardi said MPs would have a question-and-answer session with party delegates in workshops also featuring party leader Joseph Muscat and MEPs.

Following changes to the statute, the only election this year will be for the 12 members on the party’s national executive.

A number of motions will be published closer to the date and, unlike other parties, the accounts would also be open for scrutiny by party delegates, Mr Zrinzo Azzopardi said.
